Calgary Stampede 2013–Official Poster—Coroplast Mounted—unconfirmed signed by Vern Lonsberry

The Official 2013 Calgary Stampede poster featuring “The Cowboy’s Cowboy,” Vern Lonsberry, as interpreted by renowned western artist Duke Beardsley.

This professionally mounted example bears an unconfirmed “Vern Lonsberry” signature integrated onto the reverse of the work. Authentication has not been pursued and the piece is sold as found.

Lonsberry was not a celebrity cowboy in the modern sense. He was a working cattleman and horseman deeply respected within Alberta ranching culture — widely regarded as the embodiment of the old prairie west and the enduring spirit of the working cowboy.

Beardsley’s original painting was unveiled ahead of the 2013 Calgary Stampede and reportedly sold at auction for approximately $90,000. Vern was able to see the work inspired by his life and contribution to Alberta agriculture before his passing in 2013, just ahead of the Stampede’s historic 101st year.

That same year, catastrophic flooding from the Bow River devastated much of Calgary’s downtown core and submerged portions of the Stampede grounds. Against extraordinary odds, the city rebuilt in real time under the unforgettable declaration:

“Come Hell or High Water.”

And the Stampede went on.

Professionally mounted on coroplast for rigidity and gallery-style presentation. Print remains exceptionally clean with crisp corners and strong colour presence. Front surface remains protected beneath a plastic cover. A single pinhole exists at the top edge and could easily be professionally restored if desired.
